Neanthes goodayi sp. nov. (Annelida, Nereididae), a remarkable new annelid species living inside deep-sea polymetallic nodules

چکیده
A new species of abyssal Neanthes Kinberg, 1865, N. goodayi sp. nov., is described from the Clarion-Clipperton Zone in central Pacific Ocean, a region targeted for seabed mineral exploration polymetallic nodules. It relatively large animal found living inside nodules and xenophyophores (giant Foraminifera) growing on nodules, highlighting importance resource itself as distinct microhabitat. nov. can be distinguished its congeners primarily by distinctive, enlarged anterior pair eyes addition to characters head, pharynx parapodia. Widespread, abundant, easily recognisable, also considered suitable candidate potential indicator taxon future monitoring impacts mining.
